Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points–a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than “tricks”, Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

15:00 What's the move order that makes c6 good for White?
11:27 …Bxd5 looks OK. After Qc8+, Black plays …Bg8. Perhaps I'm missing something?
Be blessed by the divine. Dear sir did u won any world championship?
At 6.0, how come it is checkmate
lol Interesting that Tal and I have made the same mistake. Only difference is I make that mistake in the current position on the board, rather than visualizing 10 moves in the future.
I do that hallucinating move all the time! 😃
I am here because I like no 16
Two idiots.
the subtitle is on the chess board and we can not see the whole board
That paragraph from Tal's book was indeed a nice addition
Love the channel and videos. But how is that checkmate at 5:45? I'm kinda new
Love the channel and videos. But how is that checkmate at 5:45?
How is checkmate in that move in 6:11
You analyze almost every game of Tal vs. Botvinnik, 1960, World Chess Championship, Tal 12 1/2 – 8 1/2. Very few people on YouTube analyze any of the games Botvinnik, 1961, World Chess Championship, Botvinnik won13-8, when Botninnik at 49 years old regains the World Championship, against Tal the 24 year old, and making Botvinnik the oldest player since 1891 to win a World Championship. Botvinnik held the World Championship 3 different times for a total of 13 years. Tal and Fischer together only held it for 4 years.
11:28 if Qc8 why Bg1 wouldn’t work? Black would a piece up am I right?
At 14:25 knight to f4 would've been better for tal. White will either lose both queen and knight or get check mate…or if g2 pawn moves to g3, black night can move to e6 with an attack on white queen, also guarding the g7 pawn. Plus the discovered attack on white's knight. White queen can obviously take a pawn but still i think a queen, a knight and bishop can stop a passed pawn easily. I may be wrong. Bdw i love your introduction i.e " Hello everyone!!"
When someone 'prepares' do they then have to trust their preparation and just move?
I really thought Tal was going to lose that one. Botvinnik seems to be in a very strong position a couple of times.
5:44 can someone explain to me how that is checkmate? im a low ranked player, so the way i see it, Kxh7 or Nxh7 and now white has blundered his pieces?
And there I was staring at the thumbnail thinking "how on Earth is this checkmate"
Magician of raga
How is 5:45 checkmate?
5:47 how is that a checkmate?
Dude, this is not game 16. Wrong info.
Why are they scared to finish
You, sir, are an international treasure.
Player: “I don’t understand Tal, you literally just gave me pretty much all your pieces including queen! Thank you
Tal: You’re welcome, checkmate!
5:04 which Mikhail Tal book is that?
feeling grateful
I love his nonchalant attitude, makes it that much better
Is there no adjourned rule now adays?
11:27 "You can't capture the knight because Qc8.." but then Bg8,black looks winning to me. You noticed it as you talked, but unlike the humble Tal who admitted seeing the impossible mate, you didnt admit your bad comments ….
